Why it is Important to Be Active in Politics, Even when you are Moderate
In the past twenty years Republican has become a tainted word. The Republican Party is no longer a party that is full of old rich white men that are the CEOs of huge transnational corporations, that stripe the land of their resources and exploit the work force in periphery nations. The California Republican League is a group of Californians from all ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds and geographic locations within the state, working together to elect mainstream Republicans. With the new grassroots campaign of the California Republican League Associated Student group, it is the goal not only to take back the party, but to also educate people on important issues, such as toxic waste dumps and funding for new public colleges. Because this is a grassroots movement, CRL Associated Students relies on students like you to join our group by signing up online at www.republicanleague.org. The cost is only $3 for a yearlong membership. CRL Associated Students also implores you to write letters to the editors of local papers and intern on local campaigns working to get mainstream Republicans elected. Help California become more than just a liberal dominated state. What is more important is that the right wing or Christian Coalition Republicans are replaced, giving open-minded Californians a choice when they step into the voting polls.
It seems that each voting time, the turnout is lower and lower. Both Democrats and Republicans suffer from Moderate Syndrome. Getting moderate Republicans active in the political arena can cure this syndrome quite easily. An easy, effective step of activism is simply voting. The United States has one of the purest forms of democracy. Too often citizens of this country take this liberty for granted and do not use it. Another easy way moderates can get involved is simply to fill out an endorsement card for a few candidates that they agree with. In most cases, these cards are available online or can be sent to you if you call the candidates' campaign headquarters. The last simple way to get involved is to read about the candidates who are running. Read from different sources, as many media sources can be biased. If you have more time to give, volunteer for phone banking, precinct walking, and mass mailings or even putting a sign in your yard or car. Moderates need to stop being so aphetic and make sure that their voice is heard by going public with their political beliefs. Remember, if you are a moderate Republican and hide it, you are helping the right wing win. Republican no longer needs to be a tainted word among Californians, especially when it comes to the younger voting population.
